They say that variety is the spice of life, and that one of the ways to make life more enjoyable is by making it as varied as possible. This is especially important when it comes to food – after all, who wants to eat the same old dishes every day when there are entire worlds of cuisines to give a try. There are some foods, however, that are so packed with benefits and nutrition that they are worth consuming every day, even if they aren’t particularly tasty.
These are foods that are good for people regardless of what kind of diet they are on, and many studies over the decades have proven the benefits you could gain from incorporating such foods into your daily diet.
Whole Grains
Whole grains are considered some of the healthiest foods in the world, providing most of the fibre that we need to survive. Most people don’t realise just how much fibre the human body really needs, and without fibre coming from a whole grain, we starve out digestive fauna of much of the food that it needs to function correctly. Whole grains are increasingly rare in the shops, but even just eating a big bowl of oats in the morning already puts you ahead of most of the people that are subsisting on a standard western diet.
Dark, Leafy Greens
Nobody wants to eat their greens, which is a bit of a problem when we consider that greens are some of the most nutritionally dense foods on the market. Some are better than others, with kale being just about as good as it gets. Kale doesn’t sound very appetising, but there are countless ways that it can be improved and added to various dishes. Making a green smoothie in the morning while reading the news or the latest tennis betting odds is one of the best ways of getting a lot of greens without having to deal with the taste.
Berries Galore
Many modern foods cause oxidative stress when we eat them, so we need a constant influx of antioxidants to shave off cell damage, which can cause ageing, loss of energy, and more. There is no better source of antioxidants than in a small berry, and its why many health experts suggest eating at least half a cup of fresh berries every day. Not only are they packed with a range of vital nutrients and minerals, but their antioxidant content makes them a great way of fighting off excess oxidative stress within the body.
Fruit
One of the largest studies ever conducted on human health concluded that we don’t eat nearly enough fruit as a species. Our ancestors were likely eating large amounts of fruit for most of evolution, and fruit should provide a large amount of nutrients and fibre that we get daily, along with plenty of hydration. Eating more fruit can mean an instant boost of energy – but make sure to aim for whole fruit instead of fruit juices.
